We’ve crossed the frontier. Now the question is who’s steering?

AI didn’t just accelerate systems — it removed friction from execution. Work that used to need a team, a budget and a quarter now needs a prompt and an afternoon. And when execution becomes trivial, direction becomes everything. The hard question stops being can this be built and becomes where does building it take us.

We’re not just building tools anymore. We’re shaping timelines. Every model shipped, every pipeline automated, every decision handed to something that optimises faster than anyone can audit — each one nudges the course a little. Defenders feel it first, because the attack surface now moves at the speed of generation, and judgement about what actually deserves defending has to keep up.

Prague has form here. The Orloj was built six centuries ago not merely to tell the time but to model where the heavens were going, and in this same city Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler turned careful observation of motion into prediction. A rudder is not much use without a reading of the current.

Above the door of the hall we’re meeting in, two figures have stood since 1894: Antonín Popp’s allegories of Enthusiasm and Nobility of Mind. Enthusiasm is the half that got cheap — the building, the shipping, the doing. Nobility of mind is the half that now decides everything. They were carved as a pair for a reason, and the balance between them has quietly shifted under our feet.

BSides Prague 2027 asks who is holding the rudder, and what it takes to steer well when the cost of acting has fallen to almost nothing. Bring the research, the things that broke, and the awkward questions.
